The Lumen School of Houston | We Are Lumen
A brighter future begins here. The Lumen School of Houston is reimagining K–5 education for children with diverse learning needs—bridging the gap between early intervention programs and the traditional classroom experience.
The inspiration for The Lumen School of Houston came from a common story shared by many families of children with learning differences: after years in nurturing early intervention environments—where therapy, inclusion, and individualized learning are the norm—the transition to mainstream elementary schools can feel abrupt and unsupported.
We believe learning differences are not deficits—they’re diverse expressions of brilliance waiting to be nurtured. Our mission is to provide an educational environment that continues the level of individualized attention, inclusion, and growth families have come to value, helping every student shine at their fullest potential.
At The Lumen School of Houston, we’re not just teaching academics—we’re nurturing curiosity, building confidence, and empowering students to see themselves as capable, creative learners. Our vision is to create a small, family-centered microschool that combines the flexibility of private education with the soul of community-centered learning.
Every child deserves to grow in a space that understands their needs, celebrates their strengths, and prepares them for independence, inclusion, and lifelong success.
Our model merges innovation with compassion. We integrate therapy, enrichment, and social-emotional learning through a whole-child approach that supports every dimension of growth—academic, behavioral, and emotional.
Individualized Learning Plans: Custom pathways built around each student’s strengths, interests, and goals.
Environments that foster teamwork, communication, and respect.
In-school and family services, including counseling, therapy, and advocacy coordination.
Collaborations with local organizations and professionals to enrich learning opportunities.
Our current goals focus on:
The Lumen School of Houston serves Kindergarten through 5th grade, offering small-group learning environments designed to meet students where they are and help them grow beyond expectations.
From learning to long-term work, this pathway prepares adults with IDD to serve K–5 students of all abilities with care and skill. Training and coaching begin at The Lumen Foundation, where participants practice communication, classroom support, and daily school routines. Internships and permanent roles at The Lumen School follow—guided, step by step—into meaningful positions such as Classroom Aide or Administrative Assistant. With job coaching and employer partners beside them, participants grow into steady lights for young learners.
The Lumen School of Houston is more than a school—it’s a movement toward lasting inclusion and holistic support for neurodiverse learners and their families.
